As my first critique, I'd like to note this photo is much more beautiful compared to most photographs of Venice. The shot is darker and more mysterious than others in which I usually see shot in bright, sunny bits. Which is really refreshing...
And the gritty style in the fog compliments the urban turn the landscape has taken in the last hundred or so years.
From the water of the city creeping up the sides of the vessel, to the ever darkening shades of grey in the background, there isn't much I can say bad about this piece.
Excellent shot - very different from the usual tourist images of Venice. We have always been lucky with the weather when we have visited but I guess you would have liked a couple of sunny days though? Encouraged me to go digging through my archive for some of my pictures of Venice.
Thank you so much. Actually, although it was freezing it was so nice to see Venice like this it added more mystery. We kept seeing ghostly people disappearing down alley ways! Only sunny day was Xmas day. I am reading everything I can get hold of about Venice, the very first Empire which controlled land and sea. I encourage you to read. Venice by Peter Ackroyd. Such a major power.
