Yes again I am 'ranting' about Groups.

During my time on here I have worked on numerous Groups and I would like to share my thinking with you all especially Founders and Staff who run Groups.  These are all my own judgements.

1. If you wish to have a Group the MOST important element in being good is to really enjoy looking at art. IF you don't have the time find one Staff Member who does and allow that one staff to request for you.

2. Personally the day-to-day routine stuff is BORING but this is where managing your Staff well is very important. Ask your Staff what they like doing best?

3. Trust the people who you Invite as Staff allow them to do their own thing and give them a large measure of responsibility.

4. Remember that Staff are artists themselves, they know what they like and should be able to request art for the Group.

5. Feature your Staff 2 times a Year.....this is a reward which they deserve.

6. The most interesting 'lightbulb going off' for me is that you are in a position to direct HOW you want your Group to be.
a.If you have a multi-media Group and you see one medium is getting too strong curb it for a short while. This means declining that medium and being very clear as to why you are doing this. This does not mean you cannot change direction later.
b. Request request and request a vast array of different mediums. This means in many ways you will become like a 'one-stop shopping place!'

7. Always make sure that you have at least one Member of Staff who can do Features and more importantly likes doing them.

8.I really dislike the fact that Groups and Staff on d/a go TOTALLY unrecognized for their work. I am continually talking about this to d/a and am not getting very far. SO if anyone has any good ideas as to how we can change this, please let me know. IF there were NO Groups how would d/a continue to function?

Just some thoughts.
