What is it?

When I was young............I had too much of it!
Now I am older and going into my 68th year......I don't have enough of it.

When we had NO clocks.............the land was planted/harvested by the phases of the moon?
Kids were often born in the Summer months because (I think) more men were at home? Summer was warm an ideal time for birth also Spring.  We eat 'spring lambs' withoug giving a thought to the ongoing birth/death cycle. Old sheep are called 'mutton?' So are some old women????????

Man introduced clocks/rose line (in France) GMT

I can ONLY see this as a CONTROLLING device?

I would love some 'input' here......very confused.

I've stopped living on the clock like 5 years ago, time still goes fast (always is when you are having fun) but I have no regrets at all! Being older (i am 50) does have its perks :)

Met my new partner 8 years ago and he tought me to just live and enjoy the things i love... I slip sometimes to but clockwise? Just one clock, my body, it tells me when to eat and sleep, thats about it :D

Very interesting to think about! It's true that without clocks or any time-tracking device, things would be a lot simpler and more spontaneous. But I guess in this current society everything revolves around time, for better organisation. Deadlines, timetables, calendars... Scratch Head

And I think I've become very much stuck in this mind frame. I constantly have a watch with me or access to time or else I feel kind of lost. I always want to know the time and calculate how much time I've spent on something, and how much time I should allocate to different things. I'm sure it must be liberating not to have to rely on it all!! I just can't seem to do it; it's just a part of me! Sweating a little...

And time just goes by so quickly! I feel like just yesterday I was a little kid, and all of a sudden my entire childhood has passed me by... But that's just the reason why we all have to make the most of our time and try our best to live our lives to the fullest without the constraint of time slowing us down; so as to live with no regrets! Nod

Hi dear, almost my whole life I had to follow the watch to get things done, (working time, household, kids, dogs, dinner, laundry etc......) Since I'm retired I don't have a look at the watch to enjoy my day. Only for some important appointements I have to be right in time. I just do enjoy my life without any watch! And I tell you, it's such a wonderful and amazing feeling not to have a look at any watch around you. That's a real treat! The most important and presious thing in life is spending as much time as possible for things you like most without always have to know what time it is! It's just priceless! Nod

I can't comment on the philisophical issues you raise here but I can offer my opinion on some stuff
"When I was young............I had too much of it!
Now I am older and going into my 68th year......I don't have enough of it."
I feel like time moves quicker as I get older too why I know not

"Kids were often born in the Summer months because (I think) more men were at home? Summer was warm an ideal time for birth also Spring."
Could this be due to the autumn/ winter months being cold and people spent as much time as possible wrapped up under nice warm covers getting snuggly and cose to one another? ;) yes leave it to me an my one track mind to think of that :p

"Man introduced clocks/rose line (in France) GMT

I can ONLY see this as a CONTROLLING device?"
I can understand how it could be seen as a controlling device however it is more of a measuring device much like a tape measure is to physical sizes. It doesn;t matter how many second you say should be in a minute it can be 60 or it can be 70 your microwaved meal won't be cooked any quicker. You can have 10mm in a centimetre or 20mm your inside leg will not be any longer

Ys snugly war Winters with no light.............ho hum!

Yes, as I said, when young too much of it.......older :sprint: hard to get things done?

It certainly is for me mostly because I don't like being late! On the other hand my husband is always LATE!

Ha! Last paragraph makes me LAUGH......to trueGiggle

I did say I am noticing time passing quicker as I get older and have done since I was 13 and I have been saying I'm getting old since I was 22 lol- well I might as well practice since time is moving quicker hehehe. I noticed a school year pass by much quicker than previous ones seemed to and the following two years went by faster. It felt like those two years went by as fast as a single year did when I was 13. The time between Cristmasses and birthdays seemed to drag on and on now by the time I get used to being a certain age I find myself another year older and once the fiasco of Christmas is over it isn;t very long until the hype for the following Christmas begins.

There's so many people today...I guess a means of controlling us was inevitable; thus clocks were born, (so to speak) .   And yet "time", doesn't really control us. Does it?  Rather, it evades us.  Time, the all mighty, intangible.
Looking in the mirror, however,... then doing it again 20 years later; we are certain it has come and gone...With a whisper.
It's power can be seen though, finally. And most certainly felt.  And yet still it parades around, incognito.  We can understand it not much better, even after the aforementioned.

Yes, only at a certain age, Jenny, do  I think we really start to seriously question "time". And our mortality.  And just, "what's it all about"???
...I still don't have answers.

Invades and evades?

Since I rarely look in a mirror (even when I do I can't see me) I see a person who is not me INSIDEGiggle

I did have a thing about time when I was mid-20's.......too much of it!

Me..........no answers eitherNo, I disagree! Heart

lol  Your comment about what you see in the mirror... I can remember the first time that happened to me. I was waiting in line in a clothing store to get into the dressing room.  When I got up nearer to the entrance, I saw movement, so turned, started to smile and say hello, just to realize it was my own reflection in a mirror. LOL :psychotic:
But that day, I have to say, I got to really look at myself objectively, and genuinely - for the first time.   And while I didn't look like a hag or nothing that drastic of a change, the changes were certainly such where, it didn't match the image in my head that I had of myself. ( I kind of jumped when I realized it was me - not to mention felt silly as hell LOL )
It's amazing really how we don't really SEE the day to day changes, until something like that happens.  Or looking at a particular photograph which someone might have taken of us by surprise, that we later see.

Well, I personally feel the "perfectionist", in regards to personal appearance, is quite unhealthy.    From what I've seen of you, Jenny, you have a well groomed, nice appearance.  Healthier, imo. And that usually equals 'happier', too.
I mean, physical perfectionists seek perfection for the eyes of others, first and foremost.
Who - or why, (more concernedly), Would Any one put so much importance into what others think of them.  I'll never understand.  Of course, it's good to take 'care' of one's self.  But moderation in all things.

Me too.........yes. Lack of 'sef esteem?'  My mother (unable to work in those times) placed all her energy into her looks and my Father!

I just do my own thing............not ever bothered too much and never (apart from the 60's) found clothes I liked...........just layers and colour always.
What I love about this Town is.......I could probably get away with going out in my dressing gown!Giggle  Undoubtedly I will forget to dress one day.
Never well groomed......cut my own hair when I am drunk. Never liked hairdressers because they very rarely do what I want.
Face cream once a day. Love my bath with book.

I do understand it. As you say 'hoping others will like them?'

I am clean...except my 22yr old grandson the other day (when I was giving him a big hug) said: Oh Granny you always smell the same!
I liked this.Giggle  Moderation..........No, I disagree!

Just trying to get my 'bossy' side under control now!!!!!!!!!!!!

We try to do too much sometimes, so there never seems to be time.

We are human beings, not human doings. (someone else said that, not me ;))

This is true but why more in later years?  Is it that time has actually 'slowed down' or we are moving faster?

Yes good. HA

I could not be without a watch, one of my friends never wears one but she keeps asking me the time?

I notice now that my body automatically knows what time it is.......food/coffee etc.

Thanks Alice

My Dear Jen, you make the MOST of YOUR time. Tomorrow WILL take care of itself and there will be others, who will do what you would love to do and who will make a difference. In the meantime, my friend ENJOY your life, leave the worries to others. And most importantly DO NOT look at time, unless you have an important appointment. Treasure each day as it comes and take in as much as you can, to last you a lifetime. Much hugs my dear friend. Friendship and hug by vafiehya
