Description

My own drawing. Photographed and coloured digitally.

I have been thinking a lot lately about 'culture' and how it is often confused with "patriotism."
Certainly in France this is happening with our Front National Mayor.

By insinuating that all things French are going to be lost ......the inference being we also lose patriotism in the process.
This is patently NOT true. To stand up and pledge allegiance to a flag is beyond ridiculous and then expect our young people to fight in wars which they may not believe in.
I am one of those "labelled" people Liberal/left wing etc who abhors 'patriotism' in any shape or manner.....this causes war and social unrest.

I am interested to hear comments on this.

Culture is NOT going anywhere..........it lives on.

Well, I uderstand what You mean, however I come from Slavic culture which was and still is downpressed by christianity and judaisme so much for so long that not much people know about slavic achevements, or better said the things that came thanks to slavic culture are in daily use all over the world but people not realize where they actually came from...
Everybody knows tipical French food, but imagen if other cultures took over a credit for that... who would come to Paris to try croissant and bagette with roquefore cheese?
That is what happened to slavic countries...
But I would rather call it Respect for others than Patriotism  anyway...
The ideology of slavic people was always to : -welcome the guests - and don't try to influence violently others, and this noble characteristics where beauty and honor but at the same time weack spot and the reason why it was easy to take over the credits...
Slavic culture survived and lives on in daily habbits and sayings but not much people remember or know where it came from.
I do like to share and I like multicultural gatherings or comunities - I have been living in one years ago - but respecting credits for achivements is important to me.
